ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s basketball program plays its final game of 2023 in Broadview Center, hosting Sacred Heart before playing each of its next four on the road.

Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers are 4-8 through their first 12 games in 2023-24, and have lost each of their last six.  Sacred Heart has played three America East teams, defeating Binghamton (the team’s last victory) and falling to UMBC and New Hampshire.  Sacred Heart went 16-17 last season, including 8-8 against NEC opponents, and fell to Merrimack in the NEC semifinal to end the season.  The Pioneers were picked to win the NEC this year in the league’s preseason coaches’ poll, drawing seven of nine first-place votes.  Two players, Nico Galette and Joey Reilly, earned Preseason All-NEC honors.  Both players were All-NEC honorees a year ago.  The Pioneers’ starting lineup features five senior-year players or higher.  UAlbany is 6-8 in 14 meetings against Sacred Heart dating back to the Great Danes’ Division II era.
 
Last Time vs. Sacred Heart
November 23, 2019 | The middle opponent for the Great Danes of the 2019-20 Bobcats Invitational hosted by Quinnipiac, UAlbany defeated Sacred Heart 72-65.  UAlbany led by one at halftime and pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers by six in the second 20 minutes.  Kendall Lauderdale scored a career-high 18 points and Antonio Rizzuto recorded eight assists, leading UAlbany to a 47.5% field goal percentage, including 50% from behind the arc.  Sacred Heart kept pace with UAlbany by shooting 18-19 from the free throw line and outrebounding the Great Danes 40-32.
