Hinson & Carrington Collect ACC Weekly Honors

PITTSBURGH – For the first time since joining the ACC, Pitt swept the weekly awards with Blake Hinson grabbing ACC Player of the Week and Carlton Carrington taking ACC Rookie of the Week accolades as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Hinson is now a two-time ACC POTW selection, while Carrington nabbed ACC ROTW recognition for the third time this season.

Hinson put together a dominant week averaging 27.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the field, including 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from three-point range, and 100 percent (7-of-7) from the foul line during Pitt’s 2-0 week. The Deltona, Fla., native set a school record with nine three-pointers in a 29-point, 7-rebound effort in an 80-63 road win over West Virginia. Hinson finished the week with 26 points and five rebounds in an 11-point win over Canisius. He went 8-of-13 from the field, 3-of-4 from three, and 7-of-7 from the foul line.

Hinson has now scored 25 or more points in each of the past three games, becoming the first Pitt player to accomplish that feat since Curtis Aiken topped the 25-point mark in each of the first three games of the 1986-87 season. He ranks ninth in the NCAA in scoring (21.9 ppg.) and is second in three-point field goals (42).

Hinson also earned ACC Player of the Week honors last season (Dec. 23, 2022) and is the 14th ACC POTW selection for Pitt.

Carrington became Pitt’s first three-time conference Rookie of the Week selection since DeJuan Blair after averaging 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game as Pitt posted double-digit wins at West Virginia and against Canisius. He opened the week with 16 points, four rebounds and nine assist, while going 6-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-8 from three-point range in the Backyard Brawl. Carrington knocked down a pair of three-pointers and finished with 16 points, four rebounds, and five assists in a home win over Canisius.

Carrington has scored in double figures in nine of 10 games played and is one of just three players in the NCAA averaging at least 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.

Pitt returns to action Saturday, Dec. 16 with a home contest against South Carolina State (2 p.m. – ACC Network).
