TUCSON, Ariz. – For the first time in the Tommy Lloyd era, the Arizona men’s basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after starting the season 7-0 with victories over then-No. 2 Duke and against then-No. 21 Michigan State away from Tucson.
The Wildcats received 59 of 63 first place votes.
The last time Arizona was in the top spot of the AP poll was Jan. 27, 2014. Historically, this is the 38th week that Arizona has been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll, which is the ninth-most of any school.
All totaled, Arizona has been ranked in the AP Top 25 591 times dating back to 1949, the seventh-most of any school in the country.
The Wildcats are back in action at the McKale Center this Saturday to take on No. 23 Wisconsin, with tip-off scheduled for 1:15 p.m. MST on ESPN.
