ATLANTA – Freshman Alexa Washington started her collegiate career scorching hot from beyond the arc to pick up her first career ASUN Freshman of the Week award as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
“Alexa [Washington] did a fantastic job for us this week. She played with the confidence of an upperclassman on an SEC opponent’s floor, and then really came into her own in our first home game, said head coach Erika Lambert. “Three-point shooting is a big strength for her, but she brings so much value to our team in other areas as well. I am certain this will not be the last of her freshman of the week honors the season.”
Washington is the first UNF freshman to garner the honor since Maddie Millar last season and the fourth player in program history to be recognized by the ASUN. She is also the first conference award winner this season for the Ospreys, as well as the first honoree of the season from the conference in its opening week of play.
The Monroeville, Pa., native opened the season with 13 points against Florida in her collegiate debut, followed with a team-high 18 points in the home opener against Trinity Baptist just days later.
