MONDAY’S CONTEST
The Gators will compete Monday night at the O’Dome in hopes of adding another home win to their 2023-24 non-conference record, which currently stands at 2-0. The cross-state foes last met in December 2019, where the Gators collected their largest margin win against the Rattlers at 84-40. 

THE SERIES

Florida will play FAMU for the 16th time in program history. Florida currently leads the series, 10-5 and has won the last three meetings. The last time Florida lost to the Rattlers was in 2009.

HISTORY 

The Florida Gators were most recently defeated by Florida A&M in December 2009. The Gators lost 72-71, which marked their third time loss to the Rattlers by one point. The other one-point losses were in February 1981 (69-68) and December ’80 (76-75).  

LAST TIME OUT

The Gators defeated Bethune-Cookman at the O’Dome Thursday night, with guard Aliyah Matharu scoring 25 points to lead the Gators to an 83-69 victory. 

THE FIRST TIME

The first meeting was in December 1980, with the Rattlers winning 76-75.

POTENTIAL STARTERS:

ALIYAH MATHARU 1,000 CAREER POINTS BOUND
After last week’s 25-point game, Aliyah Matharu has a total of 899 career points. Matharu needs 101 points to hit the 1,000-point milestone. Matharu is on pace to get there in five games. 

BIG SHAY

Ra Shaya Kyle put an emphasis on her nickname, “Big Shay” after collecting back to back double-doubles in the first week of non-conference play. Kyle tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds in both the North Florida and Bethune-Cookman games. Aside from Kyle, the only other player in the Southeastern Conference who has double-doubles in the first two games of the 2023-24 campaign is LSU superstar and 2023 Final Four MVP Angel Reese. 

GATORS IN THE SEC

Florida is one of nine SEC women’s basketball programs that are 2-0 in non-conference play.  Ole Miss, LSU, Georgia, and Tennessee have all fallen to a non-conference opponent.
