Winners announced for Molten BBL All-British Team of the Year

As voted by the league’s Head Coaches and Captains, the Molten BBL All-British Team of the Year is made up of five Great Britain internationals and including a number of debuts as the level of British talent in the league continues to rise.

Kimbal Mackenzie – Leicester Riders

Kimbal Mackenzie made his debut for the Great Britain national team this season and upped his output almost across the board for Leicester Riders with incredible efficiency. He posted averages of 12.7 points and 3.8 assists per game, shooting 49.1% from the field, 40.7% from three-point range, and becoming just the thirteenth player in BBL history to shoot more than 90% from the free-throw line. In February he stepped into the starting point guard role and led the team admirably by earning the Molten BBL Player of the Month award during that period, posting his career high of 31 points on 11-15 (73%) shooting in a road win at Cheshire Phoenix.

Luke Nelson – London Lions

Possessing the most Great Britain caps of anyone in the Molten BBL All-British Team of the Year, Luke Nelson completed the first father and son duo to ever win the BBL Championship title – and was handed his medal by father Steve – after a standout season for London Lions in his first BBL campaign following seasons in the French, German and Spanish top flights and an NBA Summer League stint with the LA Clippers. He averaged 11.4 points and 4.2 assists per game, was tenth in the league for assists and eighth in three-point percentage at 39.7%, peaking at 21 points in a win over Cheshire in February and scoring 11 points in January’s BBL Cup Final success.

Josh Sharma – London Lions

London’s seven-foot centre Josh Sharma made his debut for the Great Britain national team in November, and is elected to the Molten BBL All-British Team of the Year after winning the BBL Championship and BBL Cup in his first season here. As paint protector for the league’s best defence he was second in the BBL for blocked shots with 1.9 per game, and his points average of 9.4 was achieved by a league fourth-best field goal percentage of 61.1%, while also grabbing 5.3 rebounds per contest. Sharma got more influential as the season progressed, scoring in double-figures in eight of his last eleven games, with his sole double-double of 17 points and 12 boards coming against Cheshire Phoenix in February.
