Sixers give Rockets permission to interview Sam Cassell

It is the offseason for some teams around the league and that means it’s time to begin preparation for next season. The Philadelphia 76ers are not one of those teams as they have their eyes set on a championship run, but other teams are looking to them for coaching vacancies.

The Houston Rockets, who finished the season with a tough 22-60 record, are looking for a new coach after letting go of Stephen Silas after three seasons on the job.

Per Jonathan Feign of The Houston Chronicle, the Sixers have given the Rockets permission to interview Sam Cassell for the position. Cassell has been an assistant coach under Doc Rivers since the 2014-15 season with the Los Angeles Clippers before following him to Philadelphia.

Cassell played for the Rockets in his first three seasons in the NBA and he help Houston win a championship in 1994 and 1995. He was an All-Star in 2004 while with the Minnesota Timberwolves and he has been a key piece of this Sixers team in terms of developing Tyrese Maxey and working with the team’s guards.
