Dennis Rallies West Team to Victory at Reese’s All-Star Game - Texas A&M Athletics

HOUSTON – Texas A&M standout Dexter Dennis scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down six rebounds to rally the West All-Stars to a 104-99 overtime victory in the 2023 Reese’s College All-Star Game on Friday at NRG Stadium.

The West All-Stars, coached by Aggie head coach Buzz Williams and assistants Devin Johnson, Steve Roccaforte, Dale Layer, Vince Walden and TJ Ryan, trailed the East team by as many as 16 points in the second half before mounting a furious comeback.

The West took its first lead of the game with an “and 1” free throw by Dennis with just over 10 minutes remaining. Dennis looked to have clinched the game in regulation with a dunk that gave the West a three-point advantage with :12 seconds remaining, but a 3-pointer by the East’s Tucker Richardson knotted the game at 93-93 after 40 minutes.

In the overtime period, Dennis’ plus-minus was a team-best plus-7 as he contributed his usual stellar on-ball defense and chipped in a bucket in 2:37 of action. The West out-scored the East, 11-6, to give Williams’ charges five-point victory. Records for the Reese’s College All-Star Game are inconclusive, but the 16-point comeback was thought to be the largest in the history of the game.
