Schubert Joins Special Group With Points, Rebounds, Assists

CLEVELAND, Tenn.-When Haley Schubert signed to play basketball for Lee University and coach Marty Rowe in April of 2018, the Knox Powell High School senior said, “Playing basketball in college had always been a goal of mine. I had no idea what I was going to accomplish, but I knew that I had four years of hard work ahead of me. Looking back, I think those years of hard work and commitment have definitely paid off for me and for my team especially.”

“Definitely paid off” is an understatement. The 5-foot-7 guard became only the third player in the history of Gulf South Conference women’s basketball to exceed 2,000 points, pull down over 500 rebounds and dish off over 500 assists in their careers.  Schubert is joined by Carone Harris who played from 2001-2005 for University of Central Arkansas, who had 2447 points, 895 rebounds, 566 assists, and 677 steals, and Dana Bright, who played from 1987-1991 for Jacksonville State. She had 2128 points, 511 rebounds, and 527 assists. After the close of the 2022-23 season, the Lee graduate student finished her career with 2284 points, 536 rebounds and 521 assists.

Schubert is also near the top of several categories in the GSC record book. She finished her career third in points scored. She is only behind the 2636 points of Shannon Williams who played for Valdosta State from 1986-90, and the 2447 points from Harris. Schubert was fourth in steals in GSC history with 315. Her 521 assists is ninth best in the GSC. Schubert was also 6th all-time in field goals made with 832.

“Those are all incredible accomplishments in each of their own rights, but to be able to accomplish all three is just a testament to her consistency of effort and willingness to do so many things to help her team win,” pointed out Coach Rowe. “We have currently won 114 games since Haley arrived and I am pretty sure if you ask her that is the most important thing to her, doing whatever it takes to put her team in a position to win.”

“I am grateful to be joining Harris and Bright in these accomplishments,” injected Schubert. “I am also grateful to all my teammates, past and present, who have contributed to a majority of those stats. The girls that I have played with did nothing but make me better and push me in the five years that I have played here.”
