Kel-El Ware, a former Top-10 recruit, hits transfer portal

Arkansas coach Eric Musselman knows how to use the transfer portal. It’s expected he will, as he has his tenure with the Razorbacks, be active there again this offseason.

One of the first questions, days after Arkansas’ season ended in the Sweet 16 to Connecticut, is how much contact Musselman will have with Kel-El Ware.

Ware, a 7-footer from North Little Rock, entered the transfer portal on Monday. He played in 35 games, with four starts, for Oregon in his first college season. Ware averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds for the Ducks.

Ware played his senior season at North Little Rock with Arkansas guard Nick Smith Jr. Smith is largely expected to declare for the NBA draft in the coming weeks, so it’s unlikely a reunion would be on the books.

Arkansas will have on its roster 6-foot-10 center/forward Baye Fall, the No. 16 player in the Class of 2023. The Hogs may also have twin big men Makhi and Makhel Mitchell after both transferred from Rhode Island in the last offseason. They served as the primary and reserve centers this past year.

Ware made an official visit to Arkansas last year while being recruiting out of NLR when he was the No. 8 recruit in the country.
