Final Four bound! Virginia Tech headed to Dallas after defeating Ohio State 84-74


SEATTLE, WA – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team is headed to Dallas!

The Hokies took care of Ohio State 84-74 to advance to their first Final Four in program history Monday night behind 49 points between Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore.

Kitley totaled 25 points and Amoore added 24 as Tech pulled away from the Buckeyes at Climate Pledge Arena Monday night.

Kitley and Amoore’s stellar scoring performances led the Hokies (31-4) in the contest. Kitley tacked on 12 rebounds and three blocks. Cayla King also helped out with 12 points and two steals.

The Virginia Tech offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 26 attempts. Amoore was the most prolific shooter for the Hokies, draining four treys in the contest.

How It Happened

After jumping out to an 8-7 advantage, Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run with 7:51 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from King, to increase its lead to 13-7. The Hokies then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 25-22.

Ohio State kept adding to that lead, building a 41-36 advantage before Virginia Tech went on a 6-0 run to take a 42-41 lead. The Hokies proceeded to tack on two points to that lead and enjoyed a 48-45 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech ran the fast break well, scoring seven fast break points.

Virginia Tech continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 5-0 run to expand its lead further to 60-53 with 42 seconds to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Hokies added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 63-55 edge.

Virginia Tech kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Amoore’s three, to grow the lead to 73-60 with 4:36 to go in the contest. The Buckeyes narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hokies still cruised the rest of the way for the 84-74 win.
