Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie reacts to crushing loss to the Cavs

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has seen his share of games come down to the last shot over the course of his basketball career. However, it looks like what happened on Thursday hit home a bit more since Dinwiddie and his team were on the wrong side of a fourth-quarter comeback.

“Obviously Donovan (Mitchell) missed the free throw,” Dinwiddie said after scoring 25 points and dishing out 12 assists in Thursday’s 116-114 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Brooklyn had been leading Cleveland by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter when Joe Harris made a three with 6:19 left in the period to put the Nets ahead 104-94. However, from that point, the Cavaliers went on a 22-10 run to finish the comeback with a win.

Brooklyn committed three turnovers in the last 1:18 of the game and that led to the moment where Cleveland kept getting offensive rebounds until the ball found itself in Issac Okoro’s hands open in the corner for the game-sealing three-pointer. “whether it’s (Mitchell missing his second free-throw) on purpose or not, I don’t know,” Dinwiddie continued. “But, it was short. He was able to get it back up on the glass.”

Brooklyn was that close to winning this game to end their four-game losing streak and have some positive momentum going into Saturday’s important game against the Miami Heat. Now, Brooklyn is currently 0.5 games behind the Heat and find themselves having to beat Miami just to avoid the play-in.
