The Nebraska women’s basketball team has been selected to participate in the 2023 Women’s National Invitational Tournament. The selection marks the third straight year that the Huskers have earned a post-season birth.
The Cornhuskers finished the 2022-23 regular season with a record of 16-14 and 9-10 in the Big Ten. A first-round opponent will not be selected until Monday afternoon, and Nebraska is hopeful to host a first-round game.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to compete together and represent Nebraska and the Big Ten Conference in the WNIT,” Nebraska Coach Amy Williams said. “Playing at this time of year is a privilege, and we intend to make the most of it.”
The last time Nebraska played in the WNIT was the 2021 tournament, when the Huskers made it to the second round before falling to Colorado. Last season the Huskers qualified for the NCAA Tournament but fell to Gonzaga in the first round.
Head basketball coach Amy Williams has had a track record of success in the WNIT. The year before she arrived in Lincoln, she led South Dakota to a WNIT Championship.
The first round of play will take place March 15-17, the second round March 18-21, the Super 16 from March 22-24, the WNIT Great Eight from March 25-27, the semifinals on March 28-29 and then the WNIT Championship Game will be played at “a host institution” on Saturday, April 1st at 4:30 pm (CT) on the CBS Sports Network.
