Huskers 2023-24 season comes to a close

Nebraska men’s basketball team saw their 2022-23 season end on Sunday night. The Cornhuskers were not selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT.

The Huskers finished the year with a record of 16-16 overall and 9-11 in Big Ten play. This is the first time in four seasons at Nebraska that head coach Fred Hoiberg’s team will not finish below .500.

Derrick Walker, an honorable mention All-Big Ten, led Nebraska in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game. He also averaged 7.1 rebounds per game.

Transfer Sam Griesel averaged 12.8 ppg and 5.8 rpg to complement Walker. Guard Keisei Tominaga also made headlines this season, scoring 20 or more points in seven of his final nine games.

The Olympian will now have to decide if he will return for the 2023-24 season. Following Nebraska’s loss in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament, Tominaga was noncommittal about his future plans.

“I haven’t decided yet. We’ll see. I don’t know yet.”

While the loss to Minnesota in the conference tournament was not the ending the Cornhuskers wanted, it’s clear that Fred Hoiberg’s team took a step in the right direction.
