Just two days after being named the A10 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Ace Baldwin Jr led the VCU Rams to a 71-53 Quarterfinal victory over the Davidson Wildcats.
Baldwin finished the night with 11 points and a game-high 6 assists.
The Rams shot a very efficient 57% from the floor while limiting the Wildcats to just 37% overall and 25% from distance.
Foster Loyer connected on the Wildcats first three pointer at the 17:39 mark of the second half. Davidson only managed to make three over their 12 attempts.
Much of that is credited to a Rams defense that is ranked at #22 nationally.
VCU tallied 10 blocks on the night, including 4 from Jalen DeLoach.
The Wildcats also turned the ball over 12 times on the night leading to 14 points for the Rams.
The VCU bench outscored the Davidson bench 30-12 including 11 points from three point specialist, David Shriver.
Jamir Watkins also added 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting for VCUβs bench. Watkins also grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked three shots.
Nick Kern led the Rams with 9 rebounds to go with his 4 points.
Jayden Nunn was the only other double-digit scorer with 10 points and two assists.
The Rams assisted on 18 of their 27 field goals on the day.
This was VCUβs 7th straight win, and their ninth in the last ten games.
VCU will return to action on Saturday, March 11th at 1pm ET as they take on the winner of the SLU/GMU game in the A10 Tournament Semi-Finals.
