MSU basketball gets double-bye, lands as No. 4 seed in Big Ten Tournament next week

Michigan State basketball will not return to the court until Friday — which is exactly what they were hoping for entering Sunday.

The Spartans were able to sit back and watch the rest of the league on Sunday, with results going their way to bolster them to the No. 4 seed and a double-bye in next week’s Big Ten Tournament. The other three teams finishing with a double-bye includes Purdue (No. 1 seed), Northwestern (No. 2 seed) and Indiana (No. 3 seed).

Michigan State beat Ohio State on Saturday afternoon to end the regular season with a 19-11 overall record and 11-8 mark in conference play. On Sunday, wins by Penn State over Maryland, Purdue over Illinois, and Nebraska over Iowa bumped the Spartans all the way up to the No. 4 seed. Michigan State would have moved up to the No. 3 seed had Rutgers also won at home against Northwestern.

Michigan State will face the winner of No. 5 seed Iowa and No. 12 seed Wisconsin / No. 13 seed Ohio State on Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET.
