Golden Bears Enter Tournament As 10th Seed

LAS VEGAS – The California women’s basketball team begins play in the Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seeded Washington State in the opening round on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network.

Cal owns a 4-1 series lead against Washington State in the Pac-12 Tournament. The last tournament matchup between the two teams took place March 7, 2019 in a 77-58 Cal win in the opening round.

This game marks the 79th all-time meeting between the two programs with Cal holding a 48-28 series lead, although Washington State has won each of the last five matchups.

In the first matchup on Feb. 5, Cal mounted a fourth-quarter rally to get back in the game but ultimately fell to Washington State 70-60, at Beasley Coliseum. The Bears were down by as much as 14 points in the fourth quarter but used an 11-3 run capped off by a Jayda Curry 3-pointer with about four minutes left to cut it to six. Karisma Ortiz hit a pair of free-throws a couple minutes later to bring the Bears within five, but they were unable to complete the comeback.

Washington State is led by fifth-year head coach Kamie Ethridge, who led the program to a record 19 wins last season (19-11) and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars return four starters and are led by Charlisse Leger-Walker, who ranks second in the Pac-12 in scoring (19.1 ppg) and was named Top-10 Finalist for Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.
