Caleb Houstan drains four 3s in latest G League assignment

Orlando Magic rookie Caleb Houstan put up another double-digit-scoring performance Saturday on assignment in the G League with the Lakeland Magic.

Houstan produced 18 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal in a 102-101 loss on the road to the Cleveland Charge. He finished by shooting 5-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, in 31 minutes of work.

The 32nd pick had one of his best shooting displays in the G League in the contest. He even hit a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute to break a 98-98 tie, but the Magic would not score again to fall by one point.

Houstan is averaging 16.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 40% shooting from the field in nine games with Lakeland. He has scored in double figures in all but one game and had his best outing on Jan. 22: 25 points, three rebounds and one assist.

With playing time at a premium in Orlando, the Magic have sent Houstan to Lakeland on a few occasions to log consistent playing time. He views the assignments as a great opportunity to develop on the court and stay ready in Orlando.

Houstan has brought tremendous energy and effort to the second unit during his limited run in Orlando and has found success making impact plays. With some more development, Houstan could emerge as a key player off the bench in the future.
