Shortly before the All-Star break, the Philadelphia 76ers signed Mac McClung out of the G League to a two-way deal. The young man out of Texas Tech was performing well for the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, and they decided to give him a clearer path to get to the NBA.
McClung then went out and put on a show over All-Star weekend out in Utah as he took home the slam dunk contest title. He had four dunks, three of them scoring a perfect 50, and he did all of them on just one attempt. He drew praise from new teammate Tyrese Maxey as well as NBA superstar LeBron James for his performance.
McClung now has to turn his attention back to real basketball and he was a guest on “The John Kinca
“I’m just focusing on becoming the best player I can be. Right now, I’m with the Blue Coats and whatever happens, I’ll be ready and I’m ready to be a part and help whenever my time is called.”
“I had four dunks. I had eight dunks I was choosing between and four of them didn’t make the cut that I really liked, too so those are definitely still in the bag. If it was to happen again next year, I would definitely try to be creative and think of some new things as well. I love creating new dunks and we had a lot of fun in this process doing that.”
“I think something took over me. I didn’t do it purposely. It just kinda happened. I do love Vince Carter. I respect him a lot, but yeah, it just kinda happened to be honest with you.”
