Lady Bulldogs Drop Heartbreaker On Road To Delaware State

DOVER, DEβ€” Lovely Sonnier tossed in a team-high 14 points and teammate Janiah Hinton added 12, but it wasn’t enough as South Carolina State dropped a tough 50-49 defeat to Delaware State Monday (Feb. 20th) at Memorial Hall.

Sonnier recorded her seventh (7th) double-double of the season along with 10 rebounds and five (5) assists.

South Carolina State falls to 3-22 overall, 2-8 in the MEAC, while Delaware State improves to 5-17 overall, 3-8 in the league.

Rakhya Reid finished with 9 points, while Nadia Reese added five points and five rebounds in the loss.

The Hornets were led by Alexis Moragne with 18 points and five rebounds, while Savannah Brooks added 13 points and six rebounds in the win.

Next up: South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday (Feb.25th) in an MEAC doubleheader with the women beginning at 2 p.m., followed by the men in an 4 p.m. start at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

2023 MEAC TOURNAMENT:Β The 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s and women’s basketball tournament is scheduled for March 8-11, 2023, at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. The annual MEAC Basketball Tournament moved to Norfolk in 2013 after spending the previous four years in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 2009 through 2012.
