Tar Heels hit historic mark in loss to Miami

The UNC basketball program made history on Monday night in the loss at home to Miami. And it’s not the good kind of history.

With the 80-72 loss to the Miami Hurricanes, North Carolina is now 16-10 on the year and 8-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. This marks the first time since 1949-50 to 1954-55 that they have 10 losses in four-straight seasons.

Ouch.

This season has been a struggle for the Tar Heels and now they are in danger of missing out on the NCAA Tournament. After getting a big win over Clemson on Saturday, UNC couldn’t build on that momentum and struggled to shoot in the loss to Miami. They are firmly on the bubble and really need to win as many of the remaining five games as they can.

For a team that was No. 1 in the preseason rankings going into the year, things have gone downhill in a hurry. It’s been an extremely disappointing season to say the least and it could get even worse.

In the five remaining games, UNC has NC State, Virginia, and Duke, three tough opponents. The NC State matchup comes Sunday afternoon on the road in a tough environment.

Hubert Davis and his team are going to have to find a way to make some magic happen.
