Cameron Johnson involved in blockbuster NBA trade

Cam Johnson has big game in return for Suns

Former UNC wing Cameron Johnson is on the move and was involved in a blockbuster NBA trade late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

Johnson, in the final season of his rookie contract, was involved in the trade that sent star Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns. The Nets received Johnson, along with Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges.

Four first-round draft picks (’23, ’25, ’27, ’29) and a 2028 pick swap were also sent from Phoenix to Brooklyn.

Former NC State wing TJ Warren was also involved in the trade, making his way to the Suns.

In four seasons and across 200 games for the Suns Johnson was averaging 10.7 points per game on 39.6 percent from the floor. This season he was moved into a starting role and was averaging 13.9 points and shooting 45.5 percent from three.

Johnson had missed 39 games with a knee injury earlier this season but had returned back to the lineup averaging 14.7 points per game in nine games back on the floor.

Johnson played two seasons in his UNC career, averaging 12.4 points per game and shooting 34.1 percent from three during his first year. His second year he led the Tar Heels in scoring at 16.9 points while shooting 45.7 percent from three. He was a First-Team All-ACC selection that season.

He was drafted No. 11 overall in 2019 NBA Draft.
