Where does Rutgers basketball stand in the NET Rankings after MSU win?

Rutgers football offered Chimdy Onoh on Sunday afternoon.

A win on Saturday over Michigan State was a nice boost for Rutgers basketball. It was good timing for Rutgers ahead of what should be a tough close to their regular season.

No. 19 Rutgers moved up two spots from last week, using strong wins over Minnesota and then Saturday’s statement over the Spartans at Madison Square Garden to boost their NET Rankings position.

The 61-55 win over Michigan State certainly helps the Scarlet Knights, who are solidly an NCAA Tournament team. But in terms of seeding for the tournament, this is undoubtedly a strong result.

The game, considered Quad 2, puts Rutgers at 4-4 against Quad 1 opposition and 4-2 against Quad 2 opposition. Consider that No. 7 UConn is 4-5 against Quad 1 (and 3-0 against Quad 2) and the Scarlet Knights certainly are moving into a strong position for a high NCAA Tournament seed.

With their loss on Saturday to Indiana, now No. 4 Purdue dropped one spot in the NET Rankings. The Boilermakers remain the Big Ten’s highest-ranked team.

Rutgers remains the second-highest-ranked team in the Big Ten. They play at No. 21 Indiana on Tuesday.

In the KenPom Rankings update following Saturday’s heavy slate of college basketball games, Rutgers is now at No. 14.
