LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree University women’s basketball recorded its third consecutive win, defeating William Jewell College at home, 75-54. The Bearcats improve to 10-10 overall and 7-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as they prepare to take on Truman State on Saturday afternoon.
The win marks the second time this season McKendree has been on a three-game win streak as the Bearcats saw their first streak with GLVC wins over William Jewell, Rockhurst, and Southwest Baptist in early December.
The Bearcats gained a quick lead over the Cardinals, shooting 62.5 percent in the first quarter to hold a 23-10 advantage. The McKendree offense pressed on, putting up a 22-point second quarter to extend its lead to 45-26 at the half.
For the second half, McKendree held William Jewell at arm’s length with a consistent 20-point lead over the Cardinals. By the end of four quarters, the Bearcats had sealed the 75-54 win.
McKendree shot a season high 56.9 percent from the field while William Jewell was held to 31.6 percent from the field and just 10.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Cardinals held the advantage at the charity stripe, hitting 88.9 percent of tries while the Bearcats shot a season-low 33.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Bearcats won the battle on the boards 36-33 in addition to tallying their second game of the season with 20 more assists, dishing out 21.
Leading the Bearcats in scoring was junior forward Naomi McDaniel who recorded her third game of the season with 20 or more points, netting exactly 20 in the victory….
