Where Tar Heels stand in updated Bracketology

Trio of Blue Bloods out of AP Top 25

For all of January and February, the UNC basketball program was considered ‘on the bubble’ last season. That is before the team earned a No. 8 seed and made a run all the way to the national championship game.

As UNC enters the month of February this season, things are a little different right now. They are firmly in the field right now but ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Tar Heels on a similar path as last year in terms of a seed.

In Lunardi’s latest Bracketology on Friday, he has the Tar Heels in the East Region as a No. 8 seed. They are matched up against No. 9 New Mexico with the winner getting Tennessee in the next round barring a crazy upset.

That’s not really where the Tar Heels want to be, especially after starting this season as the favorites to cut it down. With a 15-6 record and a 7-3 record in ACC play, the Tar Heels are in good shape right now. And they have a chance to improve their seed in February as the final 11 games includes two games against Duke plus matchups against Virginia, NC State, Miami, and Clemson among others.

It really could be a make-or-break month for the Tar Heels in terms of seeding and the NCAA Tournament.
