Cam Johnson has big game in return for Suns

Former UNC basketball standout Cam Johnson made his return on Thursday night to the Phoenix Suns and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact.

Johnson scored 19 points in his first game since November after suffering a meniscus tear in his right knee. The 24-year-old Johnson was averaging 13 points per game in his first season as a starter before getting hurt. On Thursday night, Johnson got going early hitting his first shot attempt and then going 4 of 10 from the field including making two three-pointers.

He also grabbed six rebounds in the game.

After the Suns got off to a hot start, they have fallen to the outside looking in for the NBA Western Conference Playoff race. The Suns missed Johnson, Devin Booker and Chris Paul for an extended period of time this season.

There’s a lot of basketball left to be played and if Phoenix can get healthy, they should be in the mix for the playoffs.

And Johnson’s return is the start of that.
