Meredith Fends Off Methodist Fourth Quarter Rally

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Second day in a row, Methodist women’s basketball played another home game versus Meredith College on Saturday afternoon. The Avenging Angels came to the March F. Riddle Center and were able to get a 51-41 win over the Monarchs, in USA South Athletic Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The ball game opened up with Methodist scoring the first four points before Kate Perko registered the first two baskets for Meredith to tied it up. The Avenging Angels took their first lead of the contest after tallying nine straight points. The Monarchs would trail 13-8 heading into the second quarter following a bucket from Serenity Webb.
  • Kiley Hicks made it a three-point game for Methodist with jumper to begin the second but then a 7-0 run by Meredith put them up by double digits. A six-point burst by Piper Carriere would give the Avenging Angels a 26-12 advantage, midway through the period. At the break, the Monarchs went to the locker room trailing Meredith 28-15.
  • Methodist scored a quick four points at the start of the third frame but Perko would get those points back for the Avenging Angels on her next two shots. A three-pointer from Jessica Drake brought the score down to a 10-point difference, 34-24, with 5:10 left in the third. To close out the quarter, Meredith went on a 10-0 run to make it a 20-point difference.
