DURHAM, NC—The South Carolina State women’s basketball team return to action Saturday (Jan.14th) on the road in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play versus North Carolina Central at McDougald-McLendon Arena. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

THE SERIES: SC State leads the series over NCCU 15-10.  The last time the two teams met the Eagles knocked off the Lady Bulldogs in Durham, 84-74, on March 3, 2022. Nicole Gwynn finished with a game-high 24 points in the loss for SCSU.

LAST TIMEOUT: NCCU (6-12, 0-2 MEAC) dropped their league openers to Morgan State (71-81) and Coppin State (67-72), while the SC State (1-12 overall, 0-0 MEAC) was sideline due to the COVID-19 protocols.

Gwynn leads the way for SC State at 9.8 points, while Lovely Sonnier adds 7.8 and Nadia Reese 8.0 per contest. Sonnier is the leader on the boards at 7.4. NCCU is the top scoring team in the MEAC with an average of 68.1 points per game and the Eagles use balanced scoring with nearly every active player scoring in each game. The trio of sophomore Morgan Callahan (8.9 PPG), senior Kira Lowery (8.1 PPG) and sophomore Aniya Finger (7.9 PPG) are all averaging within one point of each other to round out NCCU’s top-5 scorers.

 

NEXT UP: The Lady Bulldogs continue league play on Saturday, Jan. 21st versus UMES at 2 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 23rd against Delaware State in a 5:30 p.m. start.
