Eugene Omoruyi has cracked an NBA starting lineup for the second time this year, as the former Rutgers basketball standout and all-Big Ten selection makes a big step in his professional career.
Last week, Omoruyi was recalled from the G-League’s Oklahoma City Blue to join the Oklahoma City Thunder’s roster. The Thunder are missing multiple frontcourt players, giving the former Scarlet Knight a chance to join the rotation.
In his last season (2018-19) with the Scarlet Knights before transferring to the University of Oregon for his senior season, Omoruyi averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
Getting his second start of the season, Omoruyi is averaging 11.6 minutes, 5.2 points, and 2.7 rebounds in 17 NBA appearances. On December 17, Omoruyi was rewarded with his first NBA start, scoring seven points and six rebounds against the Grizzlies. The Thunder would beat the Grizzles 115 – 109, giving Omoruyi his first NBA win as a starter.

As a redshirt senior in 2020-2021, Omoruyi had a spectacular season for the Oregon Ducks. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 17.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.5 three-pointers, and 1.5 steals for the Ducks.
For all those fantasy basketball players out there, keep Omoruyi on your watch list. As of now, he is not worth picking up, but as his minutes increase, so will his production. He could average a double-double if he can log consistent minutes. Monitor Omoruyi’s output closely, as his NBA stock value will increase as the season progresses.
