After a bit of a stumble over the holidays that saw the Iowa Hawkeyes drop three straight games, they have stabilized and rattled off strong back-to-back wins over Indiana in a historic comeback and a road win at Rutgers.
Where there is smoke, there is often fire, and Iowa’s bounce back seems to be getting a little smoky. Just recently CBS Sports also labeled them as a team to keep an eye on as they could get hot in conference play.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein also tweeted out that Iowa could be a team that is about to go on a run when they host the Michigan Wolverines in a Big Ten battle. He feels that run could be fueled by Payton Sandfort, who scored 11 against the Hoosiers and 22 against the Scarlet Knights.
Is Iowa (10-6) about to go on a run?
Hawkeyes begin a three-game home stand tonight against Michigan.
Keep an eye on Payton Sandfort — 33 points in his last two games.
This is ONLY January.

As my colleague Jacob Keppen discussed, the Hawkeyes are in the midst of what he believes is a vital stretch of games. A run of three straight at home beginning tonight hosting Michigan will continue with two more Big Ten matchups inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Maryland comes to town this upcoming Sunday, Jan. 15, followed by Northwestern on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Rattling off these three games gets the Hawkeyes to 13-6 overall, but maybe more importantly, it boosts their Big Ten record to 5-3 and rockets them up the standings.
The stretch begins this evening, January 12th, when Iowa and Michigan tipoff at 7:00 PM CT on ESPN2.
