Brandon Miller Named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List Presented by Wendy’s


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men’s basketball forward Brandon Miller is one of 25 candidates named to the 2023 John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List presented by Wendy’s. Miller is the first Alabama player to be named to the midseason watch list since Collin Sexton during the 2017-18 season. 

Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2022-23 season thus far, the list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor.

Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award Program hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball recognizing The Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player for men and women. The

Wooden Award All-America Teams for men and women and the annual selection of the Wooden Award Legend of Coaching recipient. Players not chosen to the preseason or midseason list are still eligible for the Wooden Award National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award.

The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the “Elite Eight” round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented by Wendy’s following the NCAA Tournament in April.

  • Miller and Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe are the only SEC players to be named to the Wooden Award Watch List
  • Three-time SEC Freshman of the Week honoree
  • Miller is one of 10 players in Division I, the only player in the SEC and the only freshman in the country that has scored 260 points and recorded 120 rebounds this season
  • Brandon Miller is averaging 19.1 points per game, the most by any freshman in the country and No. 34 overall
  • Named to the Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List
  • Named to the 2023 Julius Erving Award Watch List
  • 2023 Coaches Preseason All-SEC Second Team selection
  • 2023 Media Preseason All-SEC Second Team honoree
