Nationally-Ranked Captains Wallop Goucher College in Historical Women’s Basketball Scoring Performance, 120-23

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Matching the program record both for most points scored in a game and largest margin of victory, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women’s basketball team rolled to a 120-23 win over Goucher College on Saturday night. The Captains (5-0) had six players in double figures led by sophomore Hannah Kaloi’s 18 points against the Gophers. 

The final score mirrored the box score against Averett University on January 19, 1991 when the Captains set the program record with a 97-point win over the Cougars in Ratcliffe Gymnasium. CNU also scored 120 points against Wesley College on November 30, 1990, setting the program scoring mark that the Captains matched nearly 32 years ago. Both hold as Freeman Center records for the Captains, shattering the previous record of +75 against William Peace last year for the largest margin of victory in the 21 seasons in the current home venue. 

Along the way, the potent Captains offense and suffocating defense booked themselves into the record book in a few other locations as well. Christopher Newport scored a gargantuan 73 points in the first half, tied for the eighth highest total in NCAA Division III history for a single half. It also stands as a new record for CNU and the most points in a half for the Captains since 1991. 

Christopher Newport sank 15 three-pointers, tying for the second-most all-time at CNU, while taking a record 37 attempts from beyond the arc. CNU also dished out 32 assists, tied for the fifth most in a single game, while registering just the 13th…
