Alyssa Latham Signs with Syracuse

Alyssa Latham, a 6-foot-2 forward from Glenwood, Ill., signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Syracuse University and play basketball for the Orange. Latham is the second signee of the Class of 2023 for head coach Felisha Legette-Jack and will join Sophie Burrows on The Hill next fall.

“We are thrilled to have Alyssa join our Orange family,” Legette-Jack said. “She will make an immediate impact on our quest to pursue championships in the classroom and on the court. Her ability to run like a guard and post like a big makes her tough to guard. We can’t wait to welcome her to SU. ‘Cuse Nation, join us in welcoming Alyssa and her family.”

In three seasons of varsity basketball at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, she’s helped the Vikings to a 51-17 record. As a freshman, she averaged 9.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.0 assists per game en route to a South-West Suburban Blue Conference Championship. She improved her scoring average to 15.8 points per game and saw increases in her rebounding (7.4) and assists (2.3) as a sophomore. As team captain her junior year, she averaged a double double with 19.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and is serving as team captain again this season.

As a sophomore she was named All-Area Second Team, IBCA 4A All-State Team and Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention. Additionally, she was named to the SWSC All-Conference Team and was a Player of the Year nominee. Accolades continued to roll in for Latham after her junior season. She was named USA Today’s Illinois Rising Star of the Year and once again to the IBCA All-State Team. She garnered SWSC Blue Conference Player of the Year honors and was AP All-State Second Team as well as the Max Preps Illinois Player of the Year.

Latham has played AAU for Midwest Elite since 2019.
