Wildcats Win Second Exhibition 104-46 Over CSU LA


TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona won its second exhibition game of the season in grand fashion on Wednesday, defeating CSU LA 104-86 behind five double-digit scoring performances and 57.9% three-point shooting. It was the Wildcats’ final exhibition game before the official start of the 2022-23 season.


Every member of the Wildcats scored in the game, and 44 of the team’s points came off the bench. Jade Loville, Helena Pueyo, Esmery Martinez, Kailyn Gilbert and Lauren Fields each scored in double figures. Loville and Gilbert, both double-digit scorers in the squad’s first exhibition against WTAMU, scored 26 points and 14 points, respectively. Loville’s 26 points came by way of 8-of-11 field goal shooting, and the Scottsdale, Ariz., native went 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

Pueyo made an impressive offensive showing as well, shooting 6-of-8 and 3-of-5 from three-point range to total 15 points. She was a problem for CSU LA on the defensive end of the court as well, forcing five turnovers off steals. The senior additionally made seven assists, the most of any player on the court.

Martinez picked up a double-double, closing out the exhibition with 15 points and 12 rebounds, seven of which were on the offensive end of the court. The Hato Mayor del Ray, Dominican Republic, native added three steals to her stat line as well.

The Wildcats forced a total of 25 turnovers, 16 of which were steals, and capitalized those efforts into 37 points while also dominating in the paint, outscoring CSU LA 46-14. The Cats tallied 46 rebounds, 33 of which came on the defensive end. Freshmen Paris Clark and Maya Nnaji combined for an impressive 18 boards, and Nnaji grabbed three steals as well.

The Wildcats will be back in McKale to officially kick off the 2022-23 season on Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. MST against Northern Arizona.
