Caleb Love took a big step forward in development from his first year on UNC’s campus to his sophomore season. After an impressive 2021-22 campaign, Love opted to return to UNC to build on that.
And now, ahead of the 2022-23 season Love is receiving some preseason recognition.
Love was named to the 2023 Bob Cousy Award Watch List on Monday afternoon, joining 19 other point guards on the list. The award is handed out annually to the top point guard in Division 1 men’s college basketball. It’s named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy.
Love is listed as a guard but is more of a shooting guard in UNC’s offense, letting R.J. Davis play the point. Davis was NOT among the 20 names on this list, which is a little baffling.
The award will add more names during the season and break down to semifinalists and then finalists before a winner is announced at the end of the year.
