Doc Rivers happy to see former Sixers G Isaiah Joe land with Thunder

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers had to make a tough decision following the preseason as they had to make a few moves to get the roster close to the NBA limit of 15 active players and two players on a two-way deal.

They released two young players in Isaiah Joe and Charles Bassey who have potential to be very good players in this league, but the Sixers just have so many veterans ahead of them that they just wouldn’t have the opportunity to play.

Joe has landed on his feet rather quickly as he signed with the rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. As a young player, he will get an opportunity to play and grow for the Thunder and begin to recognize his potential.

“I talked to him yesterday (Saturday) and I’m very happy,” said coach Doc Rivers at practice on Sunday. “He’s got a shot and a shot to play. So I want him to do well. He’s a great kid.”

Joe will look to make an impact on the Thunder while Rivers and the Sixers will continue to prepare for the season opener on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics on the road.
