The ACC conference schedule has been released, and the UNC women’s basketball slate is complete.
There is more than one basketball team in Chapel Hill that has generated a lot of buzz this off-season. While the men’s team is a consensus top-three team heading into November, the UNC basketball women’s program is also expected to have its best season in a long time.
The ACC announced the men’s basketball conference schedule yesterday and announced the women’s slate this morning.
The non-conference slate was previously announced and is as follows:
Nov. 9th vs Jackson State
Nov. 12th vs TCU
Nov. 16th vs South Carolina State
Nov. 20th @ James Madison
Nov. 24th vs Oregon (Portland/PKI)
Nov. 27th vs Iowa State/Michigan State (Portland/PKI)
Dec. 1st @ Indiana
Dec. 7th vs UNCW
Dec. 11th vs Wofford
Dec. 16th vs USC Upstate
Dec. 20th vs Michigan (Charlotte/Jumpman)

The ACC schedule is challenging as usual, with the league featuring five teams ranked in the Top 13 of ESPN’s latest edition of the women’s basketball “Way-Too-Early Top 25”. These teams are #7 Louisville, #8 NC State, #9 Notre Dame, #11 Virginia Tech, and UNC, who comes in at #13.
UNC will have to face both Virginia Tech and NC State twice, with the Heels hitting the road against Louisville and Notre Dame coming to Chapel Hill. Other teams Carolina will face twice are Virginia and of course, Duke.
With a non-conference slate that should feature multiple ranked opponents, the Heels should be challenged prior to ACC play. Indiana is ranked 12th by ESPN, Oregon is 20th, and Iowa State is 10th should UNC face them in the Phil Knight Invitational.
Carolina should be able to navigate this difficult schedule with a now-experienced roster that went all the way to the Sweet Sixteen last season. Facing these challenges throughout the regular season could help make the Tar Heels a team with serious Final Four aspirations come March.
