Where does Dana Altman rank among the best coaches in the nation?

Here at Oregon, we know how good Dana Altman is as a basketball coach. He’s one of the premier recruiters in the country and when it comes to X’s and O’s, opposing coaches know they are in for a long 40 minutes.

But exactly how good is Altman?

According to 247Sports.com, the Oregon Ducks head coach ranks No. 12 on the list. This is what writer Isaac Trotter had to say about Altman.

The list of accomplishments stretches far and wide for Dana Altman. He ranks 24th all-time with 710 career wins. Oregon has won four Pac-12 titles under Altman, and the Ducks earned a Final Four bid in 2017. Oregon has won 20+ games in all 12 years under Altman. The Ducks have made the NCAA Tournament seven times under Altman, and they’ve won a game each and every time. Altman has proven he can really recruit both the transfer portal and the prep recruiting ranks.

The world of recruiting has changed drastically even from the time he arrived in Eugene. Some coaches have shown that they haven’t been able to adapt to the importance of the transfer portal. Altman, however, has adapted and has made the most out of the portal.

In fact, Altman as one of the few coaches early on to utilize the portal. At first, it was out of necessity, but now, he has learned how to find those players that specifically fit his program. The track record isn’t perfect, but Altman has had a lot more hits than misses and the record speaks for itself.
