In 10 days, the 2022 Asia Oceania Championships will tip-off in Phuket, Thailand on Friday 20 May 2022.
Eleven men’s and four women’s teams will compete in the wheelchair basketball competition spread across nine days in a bid to achieve qualification to the 2022 IWBF World Championships and be crowned Zonal Champion. Due to COVID restrictions still in place across much of the region, it has meant the withdrawal of a number of countries such as China, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, and India.
The four women’s teams – Australia, Japan, Iran, and hosts Thailand – will compete in a double round-robin, where all teams will play each other twice to determine the final standings of the tournament.
In the men’s competition, the preliminary stages will see the teams split across two pools (Pool A – Division 1 and Pool B – Division 2) and play a single round-robin to determine the standings of the preliminary round. The top two of Pool B will then join the six teams in Pool A…
