The latest offer from Rutgers basketball went halfway around the world with New Zealand forward Tafara Gapare being tendered by the Big Ten program.
Gapare is a 6-foot-8 forward who plays for South Kent in New Zealand.
While it is difficult to tell how good of a talent he is, given the lack of competition, there is no denying that there is a very intriguing skill set at play here. He handles the ball like a guard, able to push the tempo with ease. He moves well in transition, has a tremendous vertical game, rebounds very well, is aggressive defensively and has some quality range to his game.
Now, the level of competition is not up to what Gapare could face consistently against top high school programs in the United States, but he has the size, length, wingspan and athleticism that makes him such an interesting college prospect.
He tweeted about the offer from Rutgers on Thursday afternoon:

He is listed as a class of 2023 player with offers that include the likes of Arizona State, DePaul, Fairfield, Maryland, Missouri, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech in addition to his Thursday offer from Rutgers.
In May of 2020, Gapare committed to George Washington. A little over five months later, he de-committed.
