Ranking top 20 transfers for 2022: All-Big 12 honoree Nijel Pack commits to Miami after strong sophomore year

Two of the best players available in college basketball’s transfer market announced their new destinations over the weekend. Former SMU guard Kendric Davis committed to Memphis on Friday night, while former Kansas State guard Nijel Pack committed to Miami on Saturday. Both are undersized lead guards who have proven to their high-level offensive chops over the course of multiple seasons.

Davis averaged 19.4 points per game for the Mustangs while earning AAC Player of the Year honors in the 2021-22 season. He was an all-conference honoree in all three of his seasons at SMU after transferring in following one season at TCU. Any worries about how Davis’ skillset might translate to a new school should be eased by the fact that he’s transferring within the AAC. Davis has played against Memphis seven times in his career, giving coach Penny Hardaway ample time to evaluate his new guard in person.

Pack earned Big 12 all-conference honors this past season after averaging 17.4 points on 43.6% 3-point shooting. He was also named the Big 12’s Most Improved Player after finishing third in the league in scoring. Pack also hit 40.5% of his 3-point attempts as a freshman. At Miami, he will replace the production of departing sixth-year seniors Kam McGusty and Charlie Moore in the backcourt. Of note, Pack will be receiving a two-year $800,000 deal with LifeWallet.

College basketball’s transfer portal has been hopping since early March, when seasons ended en masse for teams eliminated from their conference tournaments. Now that the season is officially over, though, the sport’s collective attention can turn from the 2021-22 season to the 2022-23 season, and that means monitoring the transfer market.

Here is a look at the top 20 potential impact transfers this offseason.
