Arizona star Christian Koloko declares for 2022 NBA draft

The USC Trojans lost Isaiah Mobley to the NBA. They think they will get Drew Peterson back, but Peterson is testing the waters while retaining college eligibility. While USC waits to see what its 2023 college basketball roster will look like, other Pac-12 programs are going through profound changes as well.

UCLA lost Peyton Watson to the NBA several days ago. The Bruins were hoping Watson, as a sophomore, would blossom into a complete player and make UCLA a national championship contender. His departure to the UCLA really scuttled Mick Cronin’s grand plans.

Now, Arizona is losing a top-tier player to the NBA. Big man Christian Koloko, whose size, length and agility made him a force at both ends of the floor for the Pac-12 champions, is heading to the NBA.

Koloko was an active defender who used his footwork to enhance his natural shot-blocking skills. He pounded the glass as well and came up with big baskets to help Arizona survive TCU in overtime in the second round of this year’s NCAA Tournament.

It will be fascinating to see how Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd replaces Koloko and reshapes his roster after a breakout first season in Tucson. Arizona’s ability to reload will affect the Pac-12 power structure, and how USC fits into it.
