VCU’s season ends in the second-round of the NIT Tournament as the Rams fall to the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest, 80-74.
VCU shot 50% from the field 46% from range, and 100% from the free throw line in the first half.
Wake Forest turned in a 48%, 46%, and 88% first half performance.
But, the Demon Deacons took an 8 point lead into the locker from the benefit of 11 fouls by the Rams—leading to 14 first half free-throw attempts and 12 points from the stripe.
VCU also committed 13 of their 19 turnovers on the game in the first 20 minutes. Seven of those coming over a span of 3:30 minutes of play.
The fouls mounted for both teams through the course of the game with the whistle being blow 49 times in forty minutes.
VCU and Wake Forest shot 27 and 37 free throws, respectively.
Senior Vince Williams had a game-high 27 points and tied team mate Jalen DeLoach for a game-high 8 rebounds.
