Steph Curry needs hot finish to win award

The first two-thirds of the NBA season has seen the MVP race ebb and flow.

Steph Curry and Kevin Durant raced out of the gate and were the clear front-runners after two months. But things have changed drastically since the calendar flipped to 2022. Curry fell into one of the worst shooting slumps of his career, something he just started to exit at the beginning of February. Durant, meanwhile, suffered a sprained MCL on Jan. 15 and remains out.

While Curry was stuck in permafrost and Durant got sidelined, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Nikola Jokic have spent the last six weeks jockeying for position. Those three are front-runners as we enter the All-Star break, but Chris Paul and Ja Morant also are lurking, along with Curry, and could steal the award with a hot finish.
