Rockets’ Usman Garuba to miss 6-8 weeks due to wrist surgery

Houston Rockets rookie Usman Garuba is reportedly expected to undergo right wrist surgery and miss 6-8 weeks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Rockets head coach Stephen Silas on Tuesday said Garuba fell on his wrist and initially didn’t think the injury was too severe. However, after further evaluation, the team determined it was necessary to undergo surgery to correct the issue.

The team has yet to issue an official timetable for Garuba to return.

Garuba has played sparingly with the Rockets this season, averaging 1.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15 appearances. He has spent time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA G League and is posting 9.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks in 11 games.

The injury to Garuba will certainly be a setback as the team wanted him to spend time with the Vipers to develop with minutes at a premium with the Rockets. He had been making good progress this season and will now be forced to rehab for the next several…
