DURHAM – The Duke women’s basketball team controlled the game from start to finish as the Blue Devils cruised to a 74-31 win over Austin Peay on Thursday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Senior Elizabeth Balogun and sophomore Reigan Richardson both finished in double figures for the fifth time this season. Balogun led the way with a season-high 16 points to go with a team-high six rebounds, while Richardson added 12 points. Shayeann Day-Wilson led the assist efforts for Duke (9-1) as the sophomore dished out five dimes with no turnovers.
Three players tallied six points to lead Austin Peay (3-5).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Duke held an 18-0 lead after the opening 10 minutes of play. Balogun led five Blue Devil scorers with seven points in the period.
- Austin Peay was able to find its offensive footing a bit with 11 points in the quarter, but the Blue Devils produced 18 points of their own to take a 25-point lead, 36-11, into the break.
- Duke pushed its lead to 34 as the squad held a 22-13 advantage in the third-quarter scoring column.
- Two Blue Devils, Balogun and Richardson, combined for 14 of the 22 third-quarter points. Balogun cashed in eight more points to push her point total to 16, while Richardson added six points of her own.
- Duke outscored the Governors 16-7 in the final frame to put the finishing touches on the win.
