Mid-Major Madness Women’s Player of the Week: Drake’s Katie Dinnebier

Mid-Major Madness named Drake senior guard Katie Dinnebier as Women’s Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-March 2. She averaged 35.5 points, 8.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds to help lead the Bulldogs to a pair of wins.

In her final home game, the senior notched a 33-point, 10-assist double-double in a 107-86 win over Indiana State. As Drake hit the road to face in-state rival Northern Iowa, the West Des Moines, Iowa, native poured in 36 points on 7-of-10 shooting from 3-point land and dished out seven assists in a narrow 80-79 win over the Panthers. She hit two clutch free throws in the final minute to help seal the win.

For the week, Dinnebier shot 62% (24-of-39) from the field, 61% (11-of-18) from 3-point range and 92% (12-for-13) at the free throw line.

With these two scoring outputs, the 5-foot-8 point guard has now reached the 30-point mark nine times this season (most in the NCAA), including four in her last five games. She is currently averaging 22.2 points, 7.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals while shooting 52% from the field and 41% from deep.

Honorable Mention

Cecelia Collins, Columbia

Collins registered just the third triple-double in program history with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a Lion win over Yale to secure at least a share of the Ivy League regular-season championship. One day earlier, she tallied six points, seven boards and six assists in a win over Brown.

Kitty Henderson, Columbia

One day before Collins recorded her triple-double, Henderson posted the second triple-double in Columbia history with 19 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, four steals and just one turnover in a win over Brown. That’s the second time that statline has been put together this century in Division I. She followed it up with nine points, eight rebounds and three assists in the win over Yale.

Avery Koenen, North Dakota State

Koenen averaged 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Bison wins to close out the regular season. She shot 67.9% (19-for-28) from the field for the week. The sophomore scored a career-high 30 points to go along with a season-best 14 rebounds in the win over Omaha. She opened the week with 20 points and nine boards against Kansas City. The Minnesota native has reached the 20-point mark four times in the last five games.

Macy McGlone, Eastern Illinois
