SEATTLE – The Washington women’s basketball team (18-12, 9-9 Big Ten) heads to Indianapolis for its first ever Big Ten Tournament this week.
The No. 12 seed Dawgs will face a recent familiar foe in the No. 13 seed Minnesota Golden Gophers, who Washington just defeated in Minneapolis 72-62 on Feb. 26.
Wednesday’s game will tipoff at 12:30 p.m. PT on Peacock. Sloane Martin (play-by-play) and Kim Adams (analyst) will call the action on Peacock with reporter Caroline Pineda. Jason Dorow will be on the call on 1090 KPTR-AM for the Huskies.
The Huskies and Gophers will be one of three first round matchups on Wednesday inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The winner of Washington/Minnesota will advance to play 5th-seeded Michigan on Thursday, March 6.
Game two will feature No. 10 seed Nebraska and No. 15 seed Rutgers tipping off 25 minutes after the conclusion of game one. No. 11 seed Iowa will face 14th-seeded Wisconsin for the final first round game.
LAST TIME OUT
The Dawgs snagged their fourth straight win Sunday afternoon, wrapping up the regular season with a 64-56 Senior Day win over Oregon inside Alaska Airlines Arena.
Washington benefited from balanced scoring from four players in double digits, led by Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine each with 15.
Dalayah Daniels added 13 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists, and four blocks, including her 200th career blocked shot.
Chloe Briggs added 10 points, five boards, two rebounds, an assist, and a block.
Across the last four Husky wins, Ladine is averaging 24.3 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting above 60 percent from the field and from three.
Daniels has flirted with a double-double average the last four outings, notching 17.5 points and 8.8 boards per contest while connecting on 57.4 percent of her shots.
SCOUTING REPORT
The Huskies beat the Gophers just a few weeks ago on Minnesota’s home floor, as Wednesday’s first round matchup will be the seventh time the two teams have met.
Washington has won the last five against the Gophers, who are led by second year head coach Dawn Plitzuweit, who has led her team to 20-10 (8-10 B1G).
