Terrapins Earn All Big-Ten Honors


 ROSEMONT, IL – Three members of the Maryland women’s basketball team (23-6) earned All-Big Ten honors from the league’s media panel and head coaches Tuesday.
 
Junior Shyanne Sellers was named a First Team honoree by both groups. Junior Kaylene Smikle was named to the First Team by the media and Second Team by the coaches. Junior Bri McDaniel earned Honorable Mention honors from the media.
 
Sellers earned First Team honors from the media for the third straight season. She averaged 14.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game for the Terrapins.
 
Sellers, who was a Preseason All-Big Ten honoree, has scored in double figures in 23 of 27 games this season. She was named Big Ten Player of the Week once and to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll twice. She is the first player in program history with 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists. Her current free throw percentage of 82.4% is No. 2 in program history.
 
Smikle led the Terrapins in scoring with 17.9 points per game. She also led the Terps in steals with 44 on the year. Smikle has scored in double figures in 26 of 29 games and reached 1,000 career points in her 58th career game. Smikle was named Big Ten Player of the Week twice this year and to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor once.
 
McDaniel averaged 10.6 points per game in her 17 games played this season. McDaniel was the Terrapins’ third leading scorer and had scored in double figures in nine games before suffering a knee injury. Her career free throw percentage of 78.5% is top 10 in program history.
 
Graduate student Sarah Te-Biasu earned a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
 
The 15th-ranked Terrapins are the No. 4 seed and earned a double-bye in this week’s Big Ten Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The Terrapins will play in the second game Friday, March 7 at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET.  Friday’s game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
