UNC basketball program back on NCAA Tournament bubble

It seems like everytime North Carolina takes one step forward, they find a way to go back two steps. That’s exactly what happened on Saturday as their four-game win streak was snapped with a bad loss at home to Stanford in the final seconds.

Now, the ramifications of that game are out as North Carolina is back on the 2025 NCAA Tournament bubble.

Joe Lunardi of ESPN released his latest Bracketology on Tuesday, ahead of UNC’s game at Wake Forest. He moved North Carolina back to the “last four byes” section after they moved out of it last week.

UNC is now a No. 10 seed in the South Region, matching up with No. 7 Missouri in Lunardi’s predictions.

Joining UNC in the “last four byes” section is Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and San Diego State. Teams to watch on the bubble include Nebraska, Indiana, Pitt, UCF, Cincinnati, Texas, SMU, and Ohio State.

As for UNC’s opponent on Tuesday, Wake Forest is not listed in Lunardi’s Bracketology, which makes it even more of can’t lose game in terms of UNC’s tournament chances. With it being a down year in the ACC, the Tar Heels really have to find ways to stack wins moving forward.
